statement of the Police Accounts, which I have examined with the assistance of Mr. P. Feathcote, Senior Clerk of this department, and I am of opinion that it shows a proper state- ment of accounts of the Police Department at the time when Chen Pui absconded, and from which it will be observed that the total deficit is $32,895.02.

I regret the delay in submitting this letter, but, if I had been able to give my whole time to the examina- tion of the Police accounte, instead of only being able to work at them occasionally, as my general work would allow, a better and more correct report could in the first instance have been submitted, and much delay avoided.

In conclusion I submit that it would be most beneficial for the Police Department and other departments concerned, were the system of Police Accounting entirely revised, and a new set of books opened.
